Hundreds of schoolchildren, with their teachers in tow, made a beeline at the exhibition train, ‘Science Express’, at Rajahmundry railway station on Monday. The Science Express attracted over 25,000 visitors, including children from various schools, on the first two days of the exhibition.

The students formed long queues and awaited their turn to get into the first coach of the Science Express, the exhibition-on-wheels, which arrived here on a three-day visit on Sunday.

The state-of-the-art exhibition aboard the ‘Science Express – Climate Action Special (SECAS)’ aims at creating awareness among various sections of society, especially students, as to how climate change can be combated through mitigation and adaptation.

Of the 16 coaches of SECAS, exhibition in eight coaches developed by Centre for Environment Education (CEE), on behalf of MoEFCC, is exclusively devoted to information, case studies and material related to various aspects of climate change.

The exhibition timings are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all the three days. The exhibition will be on till February 16.

The visitors got to know about climate change, its impact on global warming, the initiatives needed to be taken to mitigate it, renewable energy sources, eco-friendly means of transportation and innovative solutions to day-to-day problems.

The models of a polar bear, a pitcher plant, innovations in science and technology, conservation of natural resources, climate change and ways to combat it and the importance of using public transport caught the attention of the visitors.

The Science Express, which began its journey at Safdarjung railway station in Delhi on October 15, 2015, plans to cover 20 States within seven months. It will conclude its journey at Gandhi Nagar in Gujarat on May 5, 2016.
