Rajahmundry: Fifty per cent reservations are needed for backward classes in legislatures and the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should take an all-party delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demand the same, BC Welfare Association national president R Krishnaiah has said.

Speaking to newsmen in Rajahmundry on Wednesday, he said the BCs would suffer a great if Kapus were included in the same list. He feared that, if Kapus were provided with reservations, a major chunk of seats in local bodies would be wrested by the community as there was no provision of A, B, C and D categorisation.

The same scenario would be replicated in case of civil servants as well, as the Kapus were not backward, he lamented. To resolve the existing over reservations in the State, he suggested the State government to conduct caste census, like Telangana government’s household survey, to determine the backwardness of each community, and to extend reservations if required.

He informed the BCs would organize ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme in the first week of March and would stage a demonstration outside Parliament. He also said that public meetings would be held across all district headquarters.
