Boost BPOs to create more jobs in Vizag: Union Minister

The Minister convened a meeting with the postal, telecom, BSNL  and electronics department here  on Thursday after laying foundation for SAMEER at the Port Kalavani Stadium.

Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Telecommunications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad asked the officials concerned to expand BPOs in the city as they would create more job opportunities. The Minister convened a meeting with the postal, telecom, BSNL and electronics department here on Thursday after laying foundation for SAMEER at the Port Kalavani Stadium.

He said more the call centres and BPOs, more economic activities in the city. The Incubation Centre coming up with the help of Software Technology Park of India with funds being sanctioned from the Centre should become a role model in the country. This is one of its kind Incubation Centre in the country, said STPI director K Ramprasad. Robotics Application Technology would be developed here which would be helpful for the Indian Navy, he said.

He also announced that the regional centre of STPI would be set up in new capital of Andhra Pradesh at Amaravati, Ramprasad announced on the occasion. The Minister asked the BSNL chief general manager of Andhra Pradesh PV Muralidharan to set up most modern exchange at Amaravati by June.

The chief general manager told the Union Minister that Andhra Pradesh stood third in the country in mobile services. The Minister also asked him to expand the landline services in the State. Appreciating the services of postal department, Ravishankar Prasad said the postal department superseded the State Bank of India in core sector and asked the State chief post master general Dr YV Ram to expand the services throughout the State. He suggested that the postal department should start e-Commerce in the State.

Electronic department group coordinator BM Balija and SAMEER director Sulabha Ranade were also present at the review meeting.
