Intellectuals moot effective youth policy

Hence, there is a need to formulate an effective youth policy as they have to play a key role in the development of the State and the nation, they pointed out.

The Department of Youth Services has conducted a workshop to elicit opinions and suggestions from intellectuals and experts from the areas of spiritual, cultural, social, education, medical and health, sports, employment generation, industry, NSS, NCC, youth, women associations and voluntary organisations at Dr VS Krishna Government College on Saturday.

Initiating the discussion, Chief Executive Officer of Youth Services Department A Subba Raju informed that opinions and suggestions received here would be considered in formulating the youth policy. Secretary of Rama Krishna Mission Ashrama Swami Atma Vidyananda said that majority of youth in present society are being diverted in the guise of love and outside attractions.

The Swamiji felt that the youth policy should be formulated to help youth become stronger by providing proper guidance and encouragement. Sister Vidya of Brahma Kumaris said that the new youth policy should be in such a way to help transform the youth as good citizens of the country.

Secretary of Sri Gayatri Educational Society Prof P Raja Ganapathi lamented that GenNext did not know how to move in society and how to respect fellow beings. He said that parents must first mould their children with good character and discipline for which the teachers should act as role models and such an atmosphere must be incorporated in the new policy.

Superintendent of KGH Dr M Madhusudana Babu said that present youth are spoiling their health following bad habits and western life style. The government must introduce new youth policy incorporating the importance of a ‘healthy society’.

Andhra University NSS Director Prof Paul felt if the youth are encouraged in education and employment by infusing moral values, ethics and social responsibility, there will be good results.

While the District Employment Officer Venkata Ratnam said that in view of Make in India and Start-Ups in the country, the new policy must give importance for skill development to tap the talent of youth, the District Sports Officer Surya Rao said since sports keep the mind and body fit, the area of sports must be encouraged in the new policy. Retired teacher of BVK College PV Ramana Murty, Executive Director of SC Corporation Mahalakshmi, Joint Director of Industries Giridhar, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry A Ravi Kumar, ITI principal R Simhachalam, R Ravi Kumar of Nature Cure Hospital and others also spoke.
