‘Make Agency free of open defecation’

Participating in an awareness meeting jointly organised by the Rural Water Supply wing and Swachh Bharat Mission at ITDA, Paderu on Saturday, the Collector asked the sarpanches to take the responsibility of controlling open defecation to help contain spread of epidemics. He encouraged the tribals to construct individual toilets with subsidies adding that 1.66 lakh toilets have been sanctioned to the 122 village panchayats in the district which should be completed by March.

“There is no problem in releasing funds for the construction of toilets panchayat-wise, but both the sarpanches and the secretaries have to shoulder the responsibility of ensuring construction activity”, he explained. Suggesting free-fabricated toilets to those living at hilltop villages, the Collector informed that it could be used for a period of 20 years.

He directed the sarpanches not to limit themselves for laying of roads, but take up the initiative of individual toilets to get a recognition in the society. Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao exhorted all sections of the people to participate in the Swachh Bharat Mission initiative mooted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
