Gadivemula: The number of tuberculosis cases in Kurnool would be reduced gradually by promoting awareness among people about the dreaded disease, said Dr S Moksheswarudu, District TB Control Officer. Speaking to newsmen here on Saturday after inspecting the Primary Health Centre, he said 3,480 TB cases were detected in the district. The mortality rate among TB patients was five per cent only. The incidence of TB was high at Gajulapalle and its surrounding places in Nandyal division.

The TB control office in Kurnool was quipped with the Cartridge-based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CBNAAT) machine for accurate and faster diagnosis of tuberculosis. The sputum test to diagnose TB would be conducted free of cost. People with suspected TB symptoms should not hesitate to undergo the test. All the government hospitals in the district were well equipped to treat TB. Health volunteers should play an important role in detection of TB cases in rural areas by making door-to-door visits regularly, he said.
