Hyderabad: Emulating the success story of Cyberabad Security Council, which has put in place a string of foolproof security measures, Andhra Pradesh police decided to replicate the module by starting Nellore Industrial Safety and Security Corporation (NISCO) in which about 700 industries have expressed their willingness to participate.

  • NISCO’s first goal is to overcome rumours regarding security and accidental deaths of employees
  • According to a Standard Operating Procedure, the council would take care of untoward incidents with the help of employees.

Finding the necessity to ensure safety for public working in the industrial area and also to prevent property damage in the industries, the AP police have decided to establish the security council as part of the, Andhra Pradesh Public Safety Act, which was passed in 2013.

Over 700 companies including large, medium and small-scale are present in the Nellore industrial corridor, which is spread between Krishnapatnam Port and Sri City. Among these, 120 are large industries in which 50 to 60 companies each have a turnover of Rs 100 crore.

In order to execute the plan, Nellore Collector, SP and IG (Guntur Range) held two seminars in the past four months at Sri City and Krishnapatnam Port in which a core team has been formed consisting of Krishnapatnam Port General Manager (Security), Sri City General Manager (Security) and Additional SP Nellore.

The first goal of NISCO would be to overcome rumours regarding security, accidental deaths of employees due to lack of industrial safety in social media and preventing unlawful persons from taking advantage of the weak situation, said Inspector General (Guntur Range) N Sanjay.

He said that a Standard Operating Procedure has been written according to, which the council would take care of untoward incidents with the help of employees of the industries. All industries located in the stretch have expressed their interest to join the council and contribute through CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).

In the first phase, the first cluster constituting of about 100 companies will start setting up their own security measures including CC cameras, security alarms and private security personnel.

“The security guards would patrol in a stretch of 5 to 8 km on bicycles or eco-friendly motorcycles, which would have an RFID chip and a wireless set up to communicate with the blue colts and Rakshak teams during emergency,” the IG said adding that a DSP rank officer has been assigned to monitor the security and law and order at each cluster.

IG Sanjay said, “The first cluster is expected to be functioning by March and NISCO will show how policing should be done in developing regions and also on ways to reduce gaps between the general public and the district administration.

These industries have been asked to install CC cameras on their premises and set up alarms to alert police control room during attacks. Police will enter the area, only if it is an unavoidable situation.”
