Vijayawada: Expressing their dissent over the ongoing row at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Left parties organised a rally here on Wednesday, demanding the release of Kanhaiya Kumar, the university's students' union president.

The massive rally was taken out from Tummalapalli Kalashektram to Lenin Centre under the leadership of CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna and CPM Capital region committee convener Ch Babu Rao.

Addressing the gathering, Ramakrishna strongly condemned the arrest of JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar on false charges. He alleged that after NDA government came to power, the right-wing activism had increased.
The universities and other educational institutes were not spared and education was being saffronised.

“Even after JNUSU condemning the anti-India slogans, the arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar exposes the nefarious agenda of the saffron brigade, backed by state machinery, to divert the attention away from the institutional murder of Rohith Vemula,” he said.

The CPM Capital region committee convener, Ch Babu Rao, accused the BJP-led NDA of trying to undermine the secular fabric of the country. The attack on journalists and teachers at the Patiala House courts had exposed the real face of the BJP and how the Government was running the country, he said. The filing of sedition case against the president of JNU students’ union was objectionable and the case should be withdrawn, he demanded.
