Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Agriculture Minister Pattipati Pulla Rao are likely to table the general and agriculture budgets on the same day for the financial year 2016-17 during the ensuing budget session of the State Assembly scheduled to start from March 5.

The budget will accord top priority to allocate funds to agriculture and irrigation departments besides earmarking a substantial quantum to the schemes, based on the TDP’s electoral promises

Each department is seeking about 15 to 20 per cent increase in their share of funds compared to last fiscal

Hyderabad: Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and Agriculture Minister Pattipati Pulla Rao are likely to table the general and agriculture budgets on the same day for the financial year 2016-17 during the ensuing budget session of the State Assembly scheduled to start from March 5. According to the sources, the government would be give priority to agriculture and irrigation, besides earmarking more funds on its electoral promises.

As part of figuring out the demands of various departments and the flagship programmes of the government, Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu held pre-budget consultation meeting with senior officials of Human Resources Department, Health and Medical Education. With regard to HRD Ministry, the pre-budget meeting concluded with a decision to allocate more funds to primary education. This includes starting cluster schools, bridge schools, primary schools.

It was also agreed to start night schools so as to give more stress on adult education. Under medical and health sector too, the government wanted to give more importance to the primary health sector. And, to fill the gaps in developing the medical infrastructures like building hospitals and the like, it was decided to mop up funds under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme in association with corporate sector.

Besides, it was decided to build three maternity hospitals in three places in the state with latest equipment on part with corporate hospitals, with maternity and neonatal care units. The government has also decided this time to allocate funds to make available the free medical diagnostic tests even at the rural and primary health centers.

As far as social welfare sector is concerned, prompt release of funds to the beneficiaries from the vulnerable sections of covered under various government schemes, hiking diet charges, monthly release of scholarships to the students of SC and ST categories would be introduced covering the entire state.

Overall each department has sought about 15 to 20 percent more from the budgetary allocations made to the respective departments during the 2015-16 financial year. The pre-budget meeting of information and public relations, IT, minorities welfare, Telugu language and culture, Irrigation, environment and forests, transport, road and buildings, endowments, labour and employment, BC welfare and revenue and stamps department would be held on Friday.
