Tirupati: Environment and Forests Minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy said that the State government has evolved special plans to boost agriculture sector for achieving double digit growth.

Speaking after inaugurating Udyana Mela, an exhibition of horticulture crops, here on Thursday, the Minister said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been relentlessly striving to make agriculture profitable to the farmers and also to make Rayalaseema region drought free by developing irrigation facilities.

Farmers from various mandals, who participated in the Udyana Mela, evinced interest on various innovative methods like greenhouse, shade-net-house, plant growing structure as well as micro-irrigation including drip and sprinkler systems for horticulture crops.

They were also keen to know about cultivation of variety horticulture crops which are suitable to grow in the district. On the occasion, the Minister distributed assets and loans to the tune of Rs 3.48 crore to 439 farmers for taking up horticulture crops and also reviving the existing horticulture crops. Horticulture department Deputy Director Dharmaja and others were present.
