Vijayawada: Despite hurdles for getting special status to the State, Union Minister and TDP Parliamentary Party leader YS Chowdary said that they were exerting pressure on the Centre to get additional grants under special package. He also said efforts were being made for the sanction of Waltair railway division.

The TDP Parliamentary Party meeting was held here on Sunday. Disclosing the details of the meeting, he said the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had held deliberations with the MPs on the railway zone, special status and funds to be released to the State. He said that the MPs hailed the free sand policy of CM.

He said that the Chief Minister had already appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for special economic zone as part of Visakhapatnam-Chennai corridor. He said employment opportunities would be improved with the special economic zone. On delimitation of Assembly constituencies, he said the Centre had asked them for a letter, and said they would submit the same on Monday. The Union Minister hinted that there would an additional 50 constituencies following the delimitation process.

Meanwhile, MP JC Diwakara Reddy said that the YSR Congress MLAs were joining TDP to develop their own constituencies and refuted the reports that ruling party was wooing them. He said special efforts were being made to supply drinking and irrigation water to Rayalaseema region.

Recalling his recent interaction with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on the premises of Parliament, he said she had no regrets in dividing the State.

He further recounted that she had said they would admire their decision after 15 years. However, he said the AICC vice-president was still regretting the decision to bifurcate the State.
