Vijayawada: The district medical and health department officials are gearing up to ensure that the people across the district are educated on prevention measures of sunstroke as the Krishna district is synonymous with heat wave and soaring temperature.

The last summer has recorded a highest temperature after 14 years, claiming many lives. This time around, the officials seem to be taking additional steps to reach out to every nook and corner of the district creating awareness on sunstroke. This year, summer kick started from first week of February heralding seriousness in the forthcoming months.

Apart from sunstroke, the other problems that both youngsters and senior citizens suffer are dehydration and fatigue which might cause fatal illnesses. People, who ought to spend more time or constantly expose to sun, are prone to illness. According to the District Medical and Health Department officials, they have already embarked on the awareness programmes for people living in the rural areas.

The aim is to reduce the possible number of deaths caused due to dehydration and sunstroke. The primary health centres, medical aid centres, ANMs, Anganwadis would take precautionary measures by distributing oral rehydration powders for instant energy.

According to the Indian Meteorological department (IMD), within another two days, the minimum temperature of the city would reach 24 degree Celsius, while the maximum might touch 36 degree Celsius. As of now, the temperature is fluctuating between 23 degree Celsius for a minimum and 34 to 35 degree Celsius of maximum.
