Vijayawada: Two youths who took a dip in the Krishna on the occasion of Sivaratri were washed away at Old Yedlanka village of Avanigadda mandal on Monday.

A friend of the duo Simhadri Sai Naveen who was accompanying them was rescued by an onlooker Garike Ambedkar.

According to details, Puvvada Venkata Ramana (18) and Nadakuditi Manoj Kumar (12) who came along with Sai Naveen to take a dip in the river on the auspicious day have gone a step ahead. When they noticed that they were being carried away by the stream, they shouted for help. Garike Ambedkar who happened to identify the incident jumped in and was able to save Sai Naveen. He was caught in the stream in an attempt to save the others.

But, expert swimmers who were there on time were able to save Ambedkar.

The police were called to the place and a search mission was on for the missing youths. Deputy Speaker Mandali Budha Prasad reached the spot and consoled the victim’s kin.

Youth drowned
Amaravati: A 19-year-old youth was drowned in the Krishna river near Kanakadurga Varadhi under Tadepalli mandal of Guntur district on Monday.

According to police, the deceased Banavat Naveen Naik along with three friends came to have bath on the occasion of Maha Sivaratri.

They were playing volleyball when they were struck in the thick sand in the river. Naveen Naik accidentally fell down and died. When the other three yelled for help, locals came to their rescue. Locals retrieved Naveen Naik’s body.

The victim was studying in a polytechnic in Tenali. He hailed from Kolanukonda under Tadepalli mandal of Guntur district.

Tadepalli police registered a case and took up investigation.
