Atmakur (Kurnool): A partial solar eclipse was witnessed here from 6.29 am to 6.47 am on Wednesday though actually it was a total eclipse. The eclipse occurred eighteen months ago. On account of the eclipse, Sun was visible only partially. The people, including students, gathered on roof tops to witness the eclipse.

Barring Sri Kalahasti and Saptanadi Sangameshwara temples, all other temples across the state remained closed because of the eclipse and reopened only after 9 am on Wednesday. Rituals to offset the adverse impact of the eclipse and pinda pradanams to the departed souls were performed on the banks of confluence of seven rivers.

People took a dip in the river on account of the eclipse and observed fasting. The famous pilgrimage centres of Srisailam, Mahanandi and Omkaram temples were closed and opened on Wednesday morning at 9 am and rituals to cleanse the temples were performed.
