Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, he predicted agrarian crisis in the country with the anti-farmer policies. He said snatching the lands from farmers on one pretext or another also turned as a biggest threat to farming in the country. He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is ahead in snatching the lands from farmers in the name of capital building.

The farmers’ leader said 400 farmers committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh since the TDP assumed power. He said only 10 per cent of the families of the deceased received ex gratia so far. Referring to priority for agriculture in the Union Budget, the Kisan Sabha leader said there was no truth in priority for agriculture in the Union Budget.

He said that of the total allocation of Rs 35,000 crore, Rs 15,000 crore goes as bank loan linkage which should come under Finance department budget but was showed in Agriculture budget allocation. He said with the fall in cultivation area, neglect of government and lack of irrigation sources, the agricultural growth rate stands at minus one per cent for the last two years.

He expressed surprise over the governments’ claim of increasing agricultural growth to 15 per cent in next five years. He said the government policies would benefit corporate farming and rich sections instead of poor farmers. AIKS State general secretary V Subba Rao said that the State government declared 400 mandals as drought-hit but no measures have been taken up so far to protect the farmers.

He said that the AIKS plans to stage protests at various places against the anti-farmer policies. AIKS State president P Balaram and others were present.
