The State government’s decision to reduce VAT on aviation turbine fuel from 16 per cent to 1 per cent, set to give a fillip to regional connectivity in the State and also setting up green field airports at Bhogapuram, Donakonda, Orvakal, Nagarjunasagar and Dagadarthi will boost tourism. The State government is planning to construct Greenfield airports on PPP mode.

Tirupati International Airport Director V V Rao said “The new civil policy to be announced by the Central government will definitely boost air connectivity. At present we are spending Rs 20 crore per annum for airport security. Similarly, on fire services, if the State government provides security and fire services,

the Airports Authority of India will save a whopping amount. Meanwhile, with flight passengers gradually increasing in AP, SpiceJet will be operating more flights from April. Compared to last year, air traffic increased in the Tirupati International Airport by 70 per cent. With more international flights, the air traffic will go up further.”
