Guntur: The activists of Communist Party of India staged a maha dharna at the Collectorate here on Monday, demanding house sites for poor and pattas to those who occupied government lands and constructed houses in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI State assistant secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao criticised that the government has failed to distribute house sites to the poor even after 20 months. He alleged that the government is allotting thousands of acres of lands to the industrialists and neglecting the poor. He criticised the TDP government for taking steps to set up land bank with 15 lakh acres to allot lands to the corporate houses.

The CPI leader said the poor people occupied government lands and constructed the houses. He demanded house site pattas to those who constructed houses immediately and warned that if the government fails to take steps to distribute house site pattas, the CPI will intensify its agitation to mount pressure on the district
administration.

CPI district secretary Jangala Ajay Kumar alleged that the government is least bothered to take action against the MLAs and Ministers, who illegally occupied hundreds of acres of government land near Amaravati. Later, they submitted a memorandum to District Collector Kantilal Dande requesting house sites for the poor.

Kantilal Dande assured that the district administration will provide infrastructure in the colonies where poor families are residing. He directed district revenue officer K Nagababu to solve house sites problem.
