Naidu launches Andhra Pradesh State Fibre Grid

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday launched Fibre Grid, with a promise to provide internet to every home in north coastal Andhra by April and entire State by the end of July. The AP Fibre Grid floated under the banner of Andhra Pradesh State FibreNet Limited will cover 23,000 kilometers of which 9,000 kilometer of optic fibre has been laid.

Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday launched Fibre Grid, with a promise to provide internet to every home in north coastal Andhra by April and entire State by the end of July. The AP Fibre Grid floated under the banner of Andhra Pradesh State FibreNet Limited will cover 23,000 kilometers of which 9,000 kilometer of optic fibre has been laid. This is the dream project of the CM to make one member of every family in the State, computer literate.

This phase-I of the Fibre Grid was launched in the presence of executive chairman of Cisco Systems, John T Chambers, Ministers Palle Raghunnadha Reddy and Ganta Srinivasa Rao at a grand function held here on the Beach Road.Speaking on the occasion, an elated CM said that it was an important mile stone not only for the State but for entire India, as AP becomes first digital State in the country and is on road to achieve Prime Minister’s dream of Digital India.

Recalling his association with Chambers, Naidu said, “Cisco would support by providing technical support and will set up institutions in the State for imparting digital skills to the students.” A MoU was also signed between Cisco and the State government before the launch of the Fibre Grid.

“We will be offering cheapest internet service in the world providing 15 to 20 mbps speed to provide telephone, internet and cable TV services. Except for 100 km in the rough terrain of Araku Valley, entire north coastal Andhra is covered with fibre cables,” the CM said adding that as many as 303 sub-stations were st up to monitor the services. Naidu also announced within one month, all schools in the Visakhapatnam district would be covered.

Showering praises on the CM, Cisco chief John T Chambers said that he appreciates Naidu’s courage for his bold decisions. He also pointed out that Smart City concept cannot be separated from other infrastructural facilities like health and
education.
