Invoke PD Act against sand mafia, says CM
The State government decided to invoke Preventive Detention Act against those resorting to illegal quarrying of sand and smuggling, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in a review meeting at his chambers here on Monday. The Chief Minister directed the officials to form a task force in each revenue division along with mining and police officials to prevent illegal sand quarrying and smuggling
Vijayawada: The State government decided to invoke Preventive Detention Act against those resorting to illegal quarrying of sand and smuggling, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in a review meeting at his chambers here on Monday. The Chief Minister directed the officials to form a task force in each revenue division along with mining and police officials to prevent illegal sand quarrying and smuggling to neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana States.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to act tough on sand mafia. He asked the officials to seize the vehicles used for smuggling of sand. The officials were also asked to auction sand within 15 days and arrest the vehicle owners under PD Act. The Chief Minister instructed the District Collectors to bring awareness among people on free sand policy.
The Chief Minister appealed to people to contact call centre set up for the purpose to complain about irregularities in sand quarrying. He asked the officials to submit a report to him on implementation of free sand policy every three days.
He directed the officials to book cases against those resorting to irregularities in sand quarrying irrespective of their party affiliations. The officials were also told to take feedback from the people on free sand policy through Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS).
