Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that the main objective of his government is to reduce inequalities between SC, STs vis-a-vis other sections in the society.

Speaking at a review meeting held with Ministers and officials here on Thursday over implementation of various schemes with SC and ST Sub-Plan funds, he said the funds would be put to effective utilisation if people’s representatives and the administrative machinery worked in tandem.

Unlike earlier governments, he said the SC and ST Sub-Plan was being implemented in letter and spirit and the allocation of funds for SC Sub-Plan had gone up by 60 per cent. The government had made an allocation of Rs 8,724 crore for SCs in the annual budget. Similarly, for the ST Sub-Plan too, the government had earmarked Rs 3,099 crore for 2016-17 financial year, he added.

Further, the Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare action plans to make concerted efforts to take up the welfare and development of the SC and STs. “Enhancing the per capita income of the SC and STs is the only way to achieve success through the said scheme.”

Underlining the importance of providing basic amenities like roads in the SC residential colonies and ST tribal hamlets, increasing the literacy rate, providing corporate-standard education, increasing pass percentage on par with corporate schools, Naidu asked the officials to ensure that each Assembly constituency have a SC residential school. Besides suggesting the conduct of regular medical examinations, he asked the officials to implement the model of TATA Trust and Akshaya Patra initiative of common kitchen concept being implemented in Maharashtra to provide nutritious food to the students. For this, he asked officials to implement the same in Polavaram area on pilot basis.

Naidu favoured Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in running the welfare hostels and schools in the State. He said that the government was proactive in extending financial assistance, distribution of implements to artisans under Chandranna Samkeshema Palana, Chandranna Runa Mela and the like.
