Investigations by The Hans India revealed that a total of 866 Home Guards from Vizag Urban, 45 from rural, 45 from Srikakulam district, 20 from Rajahmahendravaram, 66 from West Godavari, 51 from East Godavari, 40 from Guntur urban, 72 from rural, 75 from Kadapa, 75 from Krishna district, 80 from Kurnool, 70 from Potti Sreeramulu Nellore district, 70 from Prakasam district, 67 from Chittoor, 36 from Tirupati and 81 from Anantapur attended the duties for 15 days from January 25 to February 8 this year.

They worked for more than 16 hours especially during rehearsals and also during the fleet review, along with police personnel. Though home guards were provided good accommodation and food during the International Fleet Review, problem was with the payment of daily allowance as they were paid only Rs 100 per day.

The investigation further revealed that when the Home Guards attended the special duties of Godavari Pushkarams and foundation stone laying ceremony of the State capital at Amaravati, they were paid Rs 300 per day.

Even those who had come from other districts told The Hans India on condition of anonymity that the officials concerned have washed off their hands after paying meagre amount to Home Guards, while some other alleged that presidentof Uttarandhra Home Guards Welfare Association N Ramakrishna Yadav.

When contacted, Home Guards Commandant Motisagar on Thursday informed that there were no specific guidelines or allocation of budget for payment of special duty allowance particularly to Home Guards who attended the IFR, he added.
