Visakhapatnam: In-charge Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University Prof E A Narayana observed that the youth should develop interest in participating sports and games from the school-level itself.

Prof Narayana inaugurated the Inter-District Senior Men’s and Women’s Archery competitions on Thursday at the Andhra University Golden Jubilee Grounds. In all, 70 archers from 10 districts are participating. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasised the need for developing and encouraging sports and games on par with academics.

Informing that the government was also providing better facilities to encourage sports and games, he called upon the youth to utilise the opportunities and win medals in national and international competitions.

Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao said that majority of youths from rural areas showing interest in learning archery and they would excel if they are provided financial support. President of District Olympic Association T S R Prasad said the winners of these competitions would participate in the Senior National Indian Round Archery competitions which will be held in Jarkhand from April 8 to 11.

Vice-President of State Archery Association and Director of Physical Education AU Prof M Syam Babu, president of State Archery Association Cherukuri Satyanarayana, treasurer B Sravan Kumar, joint secretary Gandhi, organising secretary Jayaraj, District Archery Association president Prabhakar, secretary P Satyanarayana, members B Ramaiah, Dr Ratnakar and Dr Varma were present.
