Andhra Pradesh to get 6 new juvenile homes
Six more government juvenile observation homes will come up in the State to provide care and shelter to the juveniles convicted of crimes. They will be set up in Guntur, Ongole, Nellore, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Kadapa. As per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015

Vijayawada: Six more government juvenile observation homes will come up in the State to provide care and shelter to the juveniles convicted of crimes. They will be set up in Guntur, Ongole, Nellore, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Kadapa. As per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, all districts in the country should have observation homes. So far, the observation homes are located in Vijayawada, Eluru, Vishakapatnam, Tirupati, Kurnool, Anantapur and Rajamundry.
Both State and Union governments will provide funds to run the same. The existing Indian juvenile delinquency law, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 was replaced by New Act Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Juvenile in conflict with law in the age group of 7–18 will be provided care and shelter in these observation homes.
Superintendent of the Government Observation Home, Vijayawada B G K Khasim Dora told The Hans India that Juvenile Justice Board includes psychologists and sociologists to provide counselling to children in homes.The second additional chief metropolitan magistrate conducts trial three days in a week for these juveniles. If juveniles are acquitted they would be set free immediately. Otherwise, they would be sent to special home located in Vizag.
Meanwhile, psychologist M Krishna Prasad Das said proper counseling, guidance, motivation are required to change the behaviour of juveniles. He pointed out behaviour modification is very useful to the children to transform their lives and future.
