Vijayawada: The TDP government is gearing up to give a strong counter to the moves of Mudragada Padmanabham who has decided to hold meetings in all the districts in the name of conducting survey about the economic conditions of Kapus. While Vijayawada central MLA Bonda Umamaheswar Rao held a meeting with all Kapu leaders representing all the districts in the state on Friday, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is likely to meet leaders from this community, including MLAs, MLCs and MPs on Saturday.

Naidu is to give a plan to these leaders to convince people on the measures the government was taking in fulfilling the promises it had made in regard to the welfare of Kapus and what it had done so far. He will ask leaders to explain how the government was selecting the beneficiaries for loans by Kapu Corporation and what it had done to see that the promise of giving BC status to Kapus was implemented. =

Naidu feels that unless the party leaders go aggressive in launching a campaign on the measures they had taken to implement the promises made to Kapus the blackmailing tactics of Mudragada who they feel was being encouraged by YSRCP would not end.

It may be mentioned here that Mudragada after calling off his first deeksha at Kirlampudi had recently threatened to go on another deeksha but had to postpone it following advice by his followers that he should not take up such activities since it was examination time for them.

Talking to media on Friday, Bonda Uma said there was no need for anyone to suspect the intentions of the government since it was committed to give BC status to Kapus. He said the commitment of the Chief Minister can be gauged from the fact that he had raised this issue even at the first TD Legislature Party meeting held at Tirupati in July 2012 even before he was sworn in as Chief Minister.

Later, he reiterated his stand on August 15 and also at the Mahanadu that followed at Hyderabad. However, Akula Ramakrishna of Kapu Porata Samithi a close associate of Mudragada Padmanabham said that after reviewing the assurances given by the government when Mudragada went on fast unto death recently and the status of implementing them, they felt that the government was violating the promises.

He said it had failed to give loans to Kapu youth as per GO 10. The Chief Minister said that no cases would be booked against the Kapu youth and those who participated in the Kapu Garjana. But the police continue to harass all those who had attended the meeting. There is gross mismatch in the assurances given and implementation. Hence, they have decided to mount pressure on the government to see that they do not dilute the assurances.
