Congress will protect farmers interests in capital region: Raghuveera

Vijayawada: APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy said that the Congress party would play a positive role in development of Amaravati, the State capital.

Speaking to press persons here on Friday after interacting with capital region farmers, he said that the Congress party would bring pressure on the Union government to allot funds for capital development and accord special status to AP as per bifurcation Act.

The Congress leader said that they would extend support for development of State capital while protecting the interests of farmers of capital region.

He said that they would seek support from seven national parties to bring pressure on the Union government for special status to AP. The PCC leader said that the TDP government was trying to give away the lands taken from farmers under land pooling to foreign companies for 99 years lease.

He said that there was no transparency in capital development and the government had failed to redress the grievances of farmers of capital region.

Explaining the problems of farmers of capital region, several farmers complained that the government had failed to fulfill the assurances given to farmers during land pooling.

They said that government had failed to settle the gramkantam issues and not allowing the local farmers to air their grievances. They said that the farmers would suffer loss as they have to pay corporate tax after allotment of sites.

The government promised to provide remission from corporate tax by discussing with central government. They said that the government failed to provide employment opportunities to youth of capital region so far though their parents offered lands under land pooling.

After hearing the problems of farmers of capital region PCC leader Raghuveera Reddy said that the Congress party was ready to extend support to farmers of capital region and if necessary launch an agitation to protect their interests.
