In a press release here on Monday, Jaya Prakash said that Government should focus on shifting the government offices located on the Swarajya Maidan premises to regain its glory. Earlier, also we opposed the construction of Rythu Bazaar on the premises.

Vijayawada: CPM cadre, in association AIDWA , staged a dharna in front of the MRO Office here on Monday, demanding that the officials leave Swaraj Maidan untouched. Addressing the gathering, CPM State secretariat member Ch Babu Rao said that scores of people in and around the city use the grounds for walking, playing sports and learning driving. If this was converted into a park, there was no alternative to host any major programmes in the heart of the city. The State Government should not convert a land into a garden just because it is beneficial to the Chief Minister,” Ch Babu Rao said.

Later, the CPM leader, along with party city secretary Donepudi Kasinath and AIDWA city secretary K Sridevi submitted a memorandum to deputy Tahsildar over the issue. CPM city leaders UV Rama Raju and M Venkateswara Rao and others also took part in the protest.

Meanwhile, former MLA Adusumilli Jaya Prakash welcomed the initiative of the State Government for shifting Rythu Bazar and Krishnaveni Polytechnic College to other place from Swarajya Maidan.

Greater emphasis should be laid by the government in designing a proper plan for the beautification process of Swarajya Maidan as it was the only open ground situated in the heart of the city, he said.
