Bezawada Bar Association (BBA) former president Sunkara Rajendra Prasad stressed the need to create awareness among the women about laws and regulations for their safety. Speaking at a seminar on ‘Women- Related Laws’ jointly organised by the AIDWA and Moturu Udayam Trust at MB Vignan Kendram in the city on Thursday, Rajendra Prasad said numerous laws were being implemented for the empowerment of women.

However, the rising graph of crime and gender discrimination against women had created urgency for more stringent laws and their strict implementation. Women empowerment was the major focus of policies and programs of the State Government. But unfortunately, majority of the women in rural areas are still deprived with lack of proper knowledge of the laws meant for them.

Focus should be laid by the government in conducting campaigns across the State to educate women on the laws available for them to save themselves from domestic and other forms of violence, he said. Speaking on the occasion, AIDWA State secretary D Ramadevi said “There are several laws providing succor to women affected by inimical family situations, there was a need to create awareness about evading such situations.

Irrespective of the positions women hold, the patriarchal society has an easy way of destroying a woman's dignity by casting aspersions on character. Women, in such situations, ought to courageously prove their standing well amidst men, rather than keeping away.” The AIDWA State vice president K Swaroopa Rani, Moturu Udayam Trust chairman S Punayavthi, secretary Sudhakhar, Family counseling center member M Sudha and others also participated in the seminar.
