The State government has decided to celebrate Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day on April 8, in a grand manner as it would showcase Telugu culture, heritage and traditions according to IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy. Briefing media here after the cabinet meeting, he said the State government had decided to organise the main function on Ugadi day in the new capital region.

It is learnt that most likely the celebrations will take place in Thulluru. The government will also utilise the situation to propagate and promote government schemes and programmes. Huge hoardings and banners displaying government schemes and achievements will be displayed at all the important junctions leading to the venue.

Sources said the Panchanga Sravanam is being planned on a grand scale at temples across the State. The Endowments Department had been asked to conduct Panchanga Sravanam involving local people. Even programmes like Kavi Sammelanam. It will also felicitate prominent personalities, the Minister said.
