Anantapur: ZP chairman Chaman on Saturday asked people's representatives in the villages particularly the ZPTC's to emulate the Ralegav Siddi model, initiated by social activist Anna Hazzare in Maharashtra for the holistic development of the village. A 20-member ZPTC group had visited the Ralegav village and studied the water sheds development and other water conservation measures and returned from Maharashtra after interacting with Social activist Anna Hazzare.

  • Once infamous for anti-social activities, the village saw a complete transformation and witnessing a holistic development today due to the efforts of social activist Anna Hazare

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Chaman said that the village of Ralegav Siddi which had been infamous for anti-social elements was today a transformed village due to the efforts put in by Anna Hazzare. He said that a farm pond dug in the village stored 2.80 crore litres of rainwater three years ago. The stored water is now being used for cultivation purpose.

He said that such experiments would go a long way in conservation every drop of water and for optimum utilisation of scarce water resources. He said that a strawberry cultivation model attracted the ZPTCs well, as the farmer earned Rs.2.5 crore by cultivating straw berries in just half an acre of land.
