Vijayawada: Chairman of Congress SC Cell K Vinay Kumar came down heavily on the Telugu Desam Party’s ‘negligence’ in upbringing the downtrodden and socially underprivileged communities. The funds allocated and released under the Sub-plan for SC, STs were not utilised for the beneficiaries, he alleged here on Tuesday.

Addressing newsmen at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, chairman of ST Cell K Sudhakar Babu, BC Cell chairman Ahmed Ali Khan, AICC convener of SC wing S Prasad spoke about the government’s ‘irregular’ policies for the respective communities. The findings of ‘SC, ST and BC Minority Sadhikaratha Yatra’ which began from Srikakulam on March 20 were discussed on the occasion.

Vinay Kumar said that the funds, which were released under the Sub-plan amounting to Rs 20 crore were said to be spent over distribution of LED bulbs to the communities. The serious issues of scholarships and reimbursements were overlooked. None of the beneficiaries were allotted houses under the Indiramma scheme and the bills for the concerned were still pending, he said.

“We met nearly one lakh people from cross section of the SC, ST and BC minority communities who expressed their anguish over government’s commitment towards their welfare. The yatra focused on collecting the feedback of the communities who are deprived of amenities and opportunities. The yatra concluded on April 5 at Kurnool.

Since people felt the need for having Ministers from the Minorities and Tribal communities, the SC, ST, BC Minority Sadhikaratha organisation demands for it,” he added. City Congress president Malladi Vishnu and others were present at the meet.
