Chittoor: A blast which took place on the Chittor Court premises injuring three persons on Thursday sent shock waves across the State. It is suspected that the rival group of Chintu who is the prime accused in Chittoor major murder case could be behind the incident as the explosion took place when he was brought to the court for a hearing.

  • The police who are beefing up security cover in wake of Chief Minister’s scheduled visit to district on April 9 were caught off guard and were them into tizzy
  • The blast occurred when Chintu, the prime accused in Chittoor mayor murder case, was brought to the District Sessions Court in relation to another case
  • Police suspect it is the handiwork of Chintu’s rival Katari Mohan, who in the past had made vain bid to attack him on the court premises itself

Police are yet to determine whether the explosion was triggered by a country bomb or firing gunpowder. Of the three injured, court clerk Balaji suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital. The local police who are busy making security arrangements for the Chief Minister’s scheduled visit to Chittoor on April 9 were caught off guard and were sent them into a tizzy with the incident.

According to the police, Chintu alias Chandrasekhar was brought to the court on Thursday morning from Kadapa Central Prison in relation to the 2007 case where he was charged with an attempt to murder the then Chittoor MLA C K Babu. The blast occurred immediately after Chintu exited the premises, with posse of policemen and escort, after appearing in the District Sessions Court.

Police suspect that the blast on the court premises is the handiwork of Chintu’s rival Katari Mohan, who in fact in the past had made vain bid to attack him on the court premises itself. Shocked by the incident, the police rushed to the spot with bomb squad to trace whether there were anymore explosives and found none.

The investigating sleuths suspect that the assailants could have filled the gun powder in aluminum tin and placed it under a Bolero vehicle. Two bikes and the Bolero were damaged partly. It may be recalled that Chintu is also key accused in the double murder of former Chittoor mayor K Anuradha and her husband K Mohan. They were brutally murdered on November 17, 2015.
