Amaravati: The Irrigation officials started releasing water from Nagarjunasagar dam to Nagarjunasagar right canal to fill drinking water canals in Macherla and surrounding mandals to tackle drinking water crisis. MLA GV Anjaneyulu had requested the government to release another one tmc ft water to fill tanks in Palnadu region.
The government accepted his proposal and had taken steps to release water from Nagarjunasagar dam. The district administration had instructed the Irrigation officials to fill the drinking water tanks by releasing 500 cusecs of water from Friday.
It may be mentioned here that the government released 4.5 tmc ft water from Nagarjunasagar dam to fill drinking water tanks in Guntur and Prakasam districts. According to sources, the water released for Guntur district is not enough and at present, there is no water in Nagarjunasagar dam.
