Anantapur: Local MLA Vaikuntam Prabhakar Chowdary paid a surprise visit to the Government General Hospital (GGH) on Sunday and interacted with the patients, visitors, medical staff and enquired about their problems and needs of the hospital. The MLA spoke to the hospital visitors and attendants of the in-patients.
Some patients complained to the MLA that for every small reason they were being referred to the Kurnool Government Hospital and were shirking their responsibility. The MLA expressed his displeasure over scores of patients complaining to him that they were asked to shift to the Kurnool Government Hospital.
He asked the hospital superintendent Venkateshwara Rao to submit a list of patients who were referred to Kurnool every day. The MLA observed that if sending patients to Kurnool is regular practice then it reflects the inefficiency of the doctors and a serious view has to be taken in this regard.
There were also complaints of non-availability of certain blood groups in the hospital and that some nurses were not taking a sympathetic view of the hapless patients. The MLA exhorted the doctors and nurses to have human approach and compassion towards patients.
There were also demands for furniture for the staff and dust bins in the wards to which the MLA promised to arrange them from private funds. Prabhakar also instructed the superintendent to arrange for a water treatment plant for the benefit of patients and visitors within 48 hours. He also visited the dialysis unit and interacted with the patients.
Several patients told the MLA that the hospital is clean and tidy and the maintenance is satisfactory. The MLA congratulated the hospital superintendent for improving the amenities in the wards and giving a new look to the hospital. Prabhakar Chowdary said that an advisory committee for development of the hospital will be constituted soon involving NGOs and others.
