Rajamahendravaram: CPM unit of Rajamahendravaram has demanded release of the former MP, Midium Babu Rao, former ZPTC Kunja Seetharamayya and mandal joint secretary Pallapu Venkat who were arrested in Chintur. Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, CPM East Godavari district secretary T Arun condemned the arrests made prior to the visit of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to Chintur. Arun said that the CPM had brought the problems of merged mandals and staged protests. But the government turned a blind eye to the problems of the region. He recalled that the chief minister visiting merged mandals only two years after the merger. He faulted the government for resorting to arrests of party leaders prior to the visit of the chief minister.
He observed that the chief minister had directed the police to arrest leaders who would raise the problems of the people. He lamented that the plight of merged mandals was deteriorated after the merger into Andhra Pradesh from Telangana. He expressed anguish that there was severe dearth of doctors, teachers and revenue staff in merged mandals.
