Karem Sivaji made SC/ST Commission chief

Vijayawada: The State government has appointed Mala Mahanadu leader Karem Sivaji as chairman of the SC, ST Commission. The State government issued an order nominating the Dalit leader to head the commission. Sivaji would be in the post for a period of three years.

Bear knocked down on ghat road

Tirupati: A wild bear was fatally knocked down by an unidentified vehicle on the second ghat road leading to Tirumala, in the early hours of Wednesday.
The dead animal was found by a bus driver in the early hours after the vehicles resumed plying on the roads, informed the officials. Forest staff, who reached the spot took possession of the carcass and sent it for examination. A forest staff said due to severe heat prevailing in the district many water resources in the forest in Tirumala are drying up, forcing the animals to come out in search of water or food. The bear which might have ventured out in search of water was hit by an unidentified vehicle, while crossing the road.
The water points set up by TTD for the vehicles all along the ghat road to cool down the heated engines is also attracting the wild animals to quench their thirst.
