Vijayawada: Members of political parties and various organisations paid glowing tributes to the Architect of Indian Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar, on his 125th birth anniversary by garlanding his statue near Tummallapalli Kalashektram here on Thursday. Youth Congress president Devineni Avinash along with City Congress president Malladi Vishnu and DCC president Kadiyala Butchi Babu paid floral tributes at the portrait of Ambedkar at Andhra Ratna Bhavan.

Speaking on the occasion, Avinash exhorted the present day politicians should emulate the ideology of Ambedkar for the economic uplift of the downtrodden and underprivileged in society. Earlier, Congress Government had implemented several schemes for the empowerment of SCs and STs in the country during its 10 year rule.

The BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre had totally ignored the welfare of Dalits during its 10-month rule, he alleged. Later, he distributed saris to women beneficiaries to mark the birth anniversary of Ambedkar. Speaking after garlanding the statue of Ambedkar, AIDWA State secretary D Ramadevi recalled the contributions of Ambedkar for the uplift of the downtrodden.

She said that TDP-BJP regime should evolve policies to empower Dalits by giving funds liberally. The State unit of BJP and SC Morcha leaders paid rich tributes to the Father of Indian Constitution Ambedkar by garlanding his portrait at party State unit office in the city. Speaking on the occasion, SC Morcha national executive committee member Rosaiah exhorted that the life and teachings of Baba Saheb were still relevant and worth practiced to cleanse society of its evils.

As long as there was discrimination and injustice against the downtrodden in society, the life and fighting of Ambedkar would continue to inspire people to fight against all sorts of discrimination, he added. BJP city president D Umamaheswara Raju, SC Morcha State vice-president B Kali, city president T Gopi Sunil, national council member LRK Prasad, State leaders L Vengala Rao, Adapa Nagendra and others were present.
