- Fire Services Week inaugurated
Chowdary inaugurated the Fire Services Week at the State fire services office here on Thursday. The department will observe one week fire services in Krishna district from April 14 to 20. Andhra Pradesh Disaster Response and Fire Services staff, family and others visited the head office near the Police Control Room and paid homage to the fire services staff who lost their lives on the duty.
The staff recollected the sacrifices of the fire services personnel and paid tributes on the occasion. Later, the Regional Officer, S V Chowdary, explained the objectives and duties of the Disaster Response and Fire Services department. He said the department was conducting the fire services week with the slogan of ‘Prevent Fire Accident-Promote Nations’ Development’ in 2016.
As per the original schedule, the staff has to take out a rally from Police Control Room to Benz Circle on the first day and perform demonstration with firefighting equipment. Due to hectic schedule of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu who participated in various programmes on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, the fire department cancelled the programmes on the first day.
Krishna District Fire Officer D Niranjan Reddy, Assistant District Fire Officer V Srinivas Reddy, station fire officers of four fire stations in Vijayawda city and staff attended the inaugural programme on Thursday. The fire department displayed various types of firefighting equipment and safety equipment at the state fire office.
Fire extinguishers made of CO2, water, foam, dry chemical powder, oxygen set, hydraulic machines, cutters, hydraulic jockey, hydraulic expander, life jacket, life boy and other equipment were put on display. On the second day (April 15), the department staff will conduct demonstrations at bus stand, railway stations, malls, markets, cinema theatres and slum areas.
The staff will display firefighting equipment and distribute pamphlets to the people. On the third day, the staff will conduct fire inspections, demonstrations in all residential apartments to highlight the LPG safety, careless smoking, fire hazards etc. On the fifth day (April 17), fire department staff will conduct fire prevention lecture, fire drills in educational institutions mostly at schools and colleges.
On April 18, the staff will conduct fire prevention lectures and conduct fire drill in industrial petrol pumps, LPG storage godowns, oil installations etc. On April 19, the staff will conduct fire safety inspections, first aid firefighting training in hospitals. On the last day (April 20), they conduct workshops, seminars on fire safety by inviting all sections of society.
