Sri Rama Navami was celebrated with devotional fervour and pomp across the city on Friday. Thousands of devotees participated in the celestial wedding of Sri Sita Rama Swamy on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami festival. Streets wore a festive look with the locals performing kalyanotsavam of Sri Sita Rama Chandra Swamy.

Vijayawada: Sri Rama Navami was celebrated with devotional fervour and pomp across the city on Friday. Thousands of devotees participated in the celestial wedding of Sri Sita Rama Swamy on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami festival. Streets wore a festive look with the locals performing kalyanotsavam of Sri Sita Rama Chandra Swamy.

The deities were decorated with silk clothes and the kalyanotsavam was performed amid chanting of ‘Veda mantralu’ and ‘mangalavadyalu’ in the specially decorated Kalyana mandapam. The celestial wedding was performed at 12 pm on ‘punarvasu nakshatrayukta Abhijit lagna puskaramsam’.

The devotees offered 10 kgs of ‘muthayala talambralu’ to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita at Kondanda Ramalayam at Besant Road. Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, along with his wife, attended the divine wedding. Over 65 kg laddu was prepared as prasadam for the devotees.

Meanwhile, the celestial wedding of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita was performed in a few apartments in the city. Wedding cards were printed a few days in advance in the name of Dasaratha Maharaj and Mithilapura Raja Janaka and distributed among the locality people for the kalyanam.

The festival also celebrated with traditional gaiety at Satyanarayanapuram, One town, Benz Circle, Patamata, Krishnalanka and Dasanjenya Swamy temple, Machavaram. The temple trustees distributed panakam, a drink mixed with jaggery and pepper, at several pandals.

The BJP leaders also celebrated the celestial wedding of Lord SriRama and Goddess Sita at the State unit office. BJP State secretary Jammula Syam Kishore and Sangatana State secretary G R Ravindra Raju distributed prasadam to the devotees.
