Vijayawada: The State government made it clear that there was no move to return five villages from the mandals that would be inundated under Polavaram to Telangana.

Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that there is no question of returning any village from the seven Polavaram mandals that were transferred to AP by the Central government with the initiative of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Meanwhile, Uma Maheswara Rao appealed to Telangana government to join hands with Andhra Pradesh government to protect the interests of both the States to get their respective share of water. He said that the Maharashtra and Karnataka governments are constructing projects on Krishna and Godavari rivers and drawing water in an unauthorised manner.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, the Minister referring indirectly to Telangana government said that constructing projects without authorisation is a waste of public money as there would be no water and instead the government should pay attention to get right share of water from upper riparian States.

He said as some farmers filed petition in Supreme Court, the court asked for the views of both Telangana and AP governments on the projects taken up on River Krishna. He said that the AP government had placed its version before the court.

The Minister said that there is a threat of water wars in both AP and Telangana if the Maharashtra and Karnataka States go ahead with the ongoing projects and stressed the need for protecting the interests of both AP and Telangana by joining hands to fight against the illegal projects.

Devineni said that the TDP government is committed to complete the Polavaram project by 2018 and YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy is trying to create hurdles by instigating the people of two villages not to vacate their villages for Polavaram project.

He said that the government has been providing R&R package to the people affected by Polavaram project and making efforts to evacuate the two villages to expedite the works of Polavaram project.

Meanwhile, talking to The Hans India, The Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa also said that there was no such proposal with the government.

He said when the tribals brought the statement of KCR to his notice, he discussed about it with the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who made it clear that there was no such proposal.
