Efforts on to develop heritage tourism in EG: Collector

Kakinada: East Godavari District Collector H Arun Kumar said that the local administration would lay special emphasis on development of heritage tourism in the district.
He was speaking at a programme organised at JNTU Kakinada on the occasion of World Heritage Day by Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) East Godavari chapter on Monday. He released a brochure published by the organisation.
The Collector said the district was endowed with several historically important building and structures and sought cooperation of organisations and public to safeguard them. He said the district administration would accord heritage status to such buildings to take up conservation measures. In order to give boost to tourism, he said 23 areas in Kakinada city were identified and the areas would be divided into three routes for sake of convenience.
The Collector also flagged off heritage walk from JNTU-K premises to Rangaraya Medical College administrative block, which was constructed in 1909 by Pithapuram Raja Rao Gangadhara Rama Rao. He said that the building was used as orphanage before the same was handed over to medical college for administration purpose.
The Collector garlanded to the statue of educationist and reformer Dr Raghupati Venkataratnam Naidu, present at the administrative block.
