Nellore: The Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, which met here on Tuesday, directed officials to provide drinking water for villages in upland mandals in the district. The MP and Chairman of the monitoring committee Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, who attended the meet, said Nellore district gets rainfall only after October and there is a need to take appropriate measures keeping in view of summer season.

The district administration has organised the meeting for reviewing utilisation of funds provided by the Union Ministry of Rural Development. The MP said officials have to prepare plans for resolving drinking water related issues in the district, especially in upland areas. He asked the officials to focus on Udayagiri, Seetharamapuram mandals and set up RO plants in fluoride affected mandals.

Nellore rural legislator K Sridhar Reddy said many deserving people are waiting for pensions. Project Director (in-charge) of DRDA B Ramireddy said 2,45,925 people in the district were getting various pensions. Rajamohan Reddy has instructed officials to give priority for SC, ST, BC and minorities and poorest of the poor in OC category.

ZP Chairman B Raghavendra Reddy said survey should be conducted to know the number of physical challenged persons in the district for providing social pensions for them. Further, the MP directed district officials to initiate action against violation of protocol by staff. Kavali and Sullurpet MLAs R Pratap Kumar Reddy and K Sanjeevaiah also participated in the discussion on following protocol and provided their ideas.

Joint Collector A Md Imtiyaz explained that they had forwarded concerned rules to the officials at mandal level. Members of the committee also asked the measure being taken for constructing the new school buildings in the place of dilapidate ones. The MP suggested for preparing a comprehensive report for sending it to the State government for construction of school buildings.
