Vijayawada: YSR Congress legislator Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao of Bobbili in Vizianagaram district, here on Wednesday joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). He was formally inducted into the party by TDP national president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Sujay hails from the Bobbili royal family. He joined the TDP along with his brother Baby Nayana in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa, TDP State president K Kala Venkata Rao and a host of other leaders.

Talking to the media, Sujay said that being an opposition MLA, he always had a feeling that he may be inadvertently coming in the way of development at a time when Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been striving hard for it. By joining the TDP, he said he now feels relieved. “I can now be a partner in the State's development,”he added.

Asked why he had quit YSRCP, Rao said, “YSRCP and its leader remain directionless even after two years. Instead of playing a constructive role, the YSRCP has been pursuing only a destructive agenda. Hence, its MLAs are quitting the party." He invited all those wishing to partner in the State's development, to join TDP and strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

Rao is a two-time legislator and has been unhappy for some time now following the entry of his bete noire Botcha Satyanarayana into the YSRCP. Interestingly, while in YSRCP he led a team of MLAs to submit a memorandum to the Speaker of AP Legislative Assembly K Sivaprasada Rao seeking disqualification of those who quit YSRCP and joined TDP.

He is the 12th legislator to join the TDP. Already, 11 legislators from different districts have crossed over to the TDP in the last two months. With Sujay's exit, YSRCP'S strength in the Assembly has depleted to 55.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said the government would sanction funds for the development of Bobbili region. He said Bobbili is a historical place and the Telugu Desam government would try to restore its glory by taking up development works.

He said Ashok Gajapathi Raju is a very humble and senior politician and suggested to the newly joined leaders to work together for the prosperity of Vizianagaram district. He reiterated that the Telugu Desam government is determined to develop the State in all spheres and appealed to the leaders and functionaries to work with a goal of developing the State. Ministers Ganta Srinivas, Mrunalini, MPs Maganti Babu, C M Ramesh, MLA Jaleel Khan and others were present on the occasion.
