Naidu inaugurates Isuzu plant
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant of Isuzu Motors in Sri City on Wednesday.
Tirupati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant of Isuzu Motors in Sri City on Wednesday.
The inauguration of the new plant was followed by first vehicle roll-out, which was held in the presence of Ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Hiramatsu and executive vice president of Isuzu Motors, Kazushi Okawa.
This Rs 3,000 crore plant at Sri City, which will manufacture Isuzu D-Max pick-ups and has production capacity of 50,000 units that can be scaled up to 1,20,000 units.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said the inauguration of the Isuzu Motors plant will strengthen the relationship between the State and Japan.
Stating that the relationship between Japan and the State was historic Naidu said that the construction of Amaravati city by a consortium of Japanese industries will strengthen the age-old bondage of the two.
Declaring that the vehicles rolled out of Isuzu’s Sri City plant will be exempted from road tax, Naidu said his government would also consider offering more incentives.
Assuring all out support from his government, he invited Japanese companies to invest in the State, which he claimed most suitable for industries in India.
He lauded Isuzu for its decision to take the spare parts from local manufacturers to an extent 50 per cent. Isuzu Motors president Masanori Katayama said, “We are happy to start our manufacturing operations in India,
which he said is one of the biggest automobile markets and also one of the fastest growing economies in the world. India is a key part of 100-year-old Isuzu Motors global growth strategy,”
he said and added that new plant will not only cater to the requirements of the growing Indian market but in future it will also serve as key manufacturing hub for Isuzu’s global operations,
having its presence in 100 countries with manufacturing units in 25 countries. Isuzu Motors India chairman Hiroyasu Miura said that they found Indian suppliers to be capable of meeting Isuzu’s global quality standards and added that the company will follow a high localisation strategy for the manufacturing operations.
Later, the CM visited the plant and also tried his hands on the wheels of a new vehicle, which was just rolled out from the manufacturing unit.
Minister for forests and Environment Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana and others were present.
