Anantapur: Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa stated that the Soak Pits programme has been the most prestigious programme of the TDP government. On a mission mode, it is being implemented to conserve every bit of water and improve ground water table in the State particularly in drought prone districts.

Participating in the Soak Pits sinking programme at the municipal corporation premises here on Wednesday, Chinarajappa said that the rivers linking mission, the Neeru-Chettu programme and the Soak Pits scheme are all part of the state government's quest for transforming the State into a green state and driving out drought from the State.

He said that the soak pits sinking is being implemented on a mission mode in rural areas, schools premises, housing vicinity and in public places. Rs 2,000 is being spent on sinking one soak pit under the NREG scheme. He asked the media to partner with the government in giving wide publicity to the flagship programmes of the government. MLA Prabhakar Chowdary and Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Uma and Mayor Swaroopa were present.
