Tirupati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu unable to fight fiercely with the Central government for the special category status as he is at the mercy of its to bail him out from the cash-for-vote case, said YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) general secretary and former MLA B Karunakar Reddy. The YSRCP activists staged a dharna before RDO office here on Tuesday, as part of the statewide stir call given by the party.

Addressing the party activists, Reddy said that two years back Narendra Modi, M Venkaiah Naidu and N Chandrababu Naidu have promised the people of AP during an election meeting here, at the foot of Tirumala, that they will get special status to AP if their combine voted to power. Reddy said the same leaders are now turned speechless and voiceless even as the whole State on one voice loudly seeking them to fulfill their poll promise.

He also said that the party would consider all otions to realise special status including legal course. Party town president P Pratap Reddy and others also spoke. Later, a delegation of party leaders led by Karunakar Reddy submitted a memorandum to Sub-Collector Himanshu Shukla.

The CPI activists on Tuesday staged a novel protest by wearing a dress made of leaves at Ambedkar Statue Circle in support special status. Speaking on the occasion, CPI leader A Rama Naidu demanded Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to snap ties with BJP and fight for special status. He wanted him to convene an all-party meeting immediately and lead a delegation to the Delhi to see the Centre accord special status to the State. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi betrayed the people of the State and stated that the people will teach his party a bitter lesson in the next elections.
