Nellore: Municipal Minister P Narayana said progress in science and technology is crucial in country’s development and the science
museum in the district would propel such interest among students and other people visiting the place.

He inaugurated science museum at Chemudugunta on Wednesday and said science and technology plays a significant role in GDP of a
country and developed countries are witnessing such contribution from the sector. He mentioned Israel is getting 4.21 per cent from
science and technology and it is 4.15 per cent in South Korea. Unfortunately, it is only 0.88 per cent in India, the Minister lamented.
Country has been in 39th place across the globe in such revenue and it was due to the population of scientists has been at 165 for 10
lakh population, he said. He asked student community to focus on such research based academic activity.

Narayana cited examples of patents registered in the countries and said China alone got 8,00,135 patents in 2014 where as India
obtained only 12,040 such rights in the year achieving 14th place across the globe. Patents indicate research capability of a country and
there is every need to focus on research in the State, he said. He said there is a possibility for such excellence with required coordination
between the industry and academic institutions.

The Minister asked officials to arrange industrial visits to school students, once in year and suggested to provide free bus facility for such
activity. He appreciated three students of ZP schools, who achieved 10 GPA in SSC exams. He said that they were planning to make
municipal schools in the State on par with corporate schools in terms of quality instruction.

ZP Chairman B Raghavendra Reddy said 92 per cent of children succeeded in SSC exams and said they had allocated Rs 5 lakh for RO
plant in the premises of science museum for water needs of the visitors. YSRCP district convener and Sarvepalli legislator Kakani
Govardhan Reddy said that they made efforts to establish the museum for the last 11 years.

MLCs V Narayana Reddy, S Chandramohan Reddy, Venkatagiri MLA K Ramakrishna, Gudur MLA P Sunil Kumar, Kovur MLA Polamreddy
Srinivasulu Reddy, former Minister P Ratnam, Joint Collector Md Imtiyaz, and other senior officials were also present.
