New Delhi: TDP MP, C M Ramesh, here on Wednesday questioned the Centre's reluctance in according the special status to AP and sought to know the reasons during a debate on the Finance Bill.

Pointing out the financial neglect of the State by the Centre, he listed out statistics to prove the backwardness of the State. Reeling outdetails of the AP revenues, he said AP would be the only big State apart from the North Eastern States with deficit in 2019-20 too.

Stating that AP people were unable to comprehend their 'sin' that was leading to this neglect, he sought to know why the word given on the floor of the House was not being kept.

Referring to the Union Minster of State for Finance, Jayant Sinha's, speech whereupon he said that the 14th Finance Commission had not recommended the special status for AP, Ramesh asked whether such a status was recommended for Uttarakhand by the Finance Commission.

When UP was to be re-organised, no such recommendation was made in the Act too. What accorded the status to Uttarakhand was the assurance given by the then PM, A B Vajpayee and the decision of the Cabinet which recommended the status. Hence it was unfair to drag on the issue denying AP its rightful position, he said.

Similarly, he said only Rs 735 crore was released for Polavaram project as against an expenditure of Rs 4,092 crore by the State government for its completion by 2018 so far.

He also questioned the delay in announcing a development package for AP on the lines of Bundelkhand and Odisha as promised. AP would not rise from the ashes unless the Centre rectified these anomalies, he said.
