Vijayawada: Social Welfare Minister Ravela Kishore Babu on Thursday said that 185 social welfare hostels have been converted in the first phase and efforts are on to convert all hostels into residential schools by 2022-23.
He said the State government had issued GO 45 in July 2015 for conversion of social welfare hostels into residential schools to improve the quality of education and provide basic amenities to the children.
The Minister inaugurated the State-level workshop on Swachh hostel at NAC Convention Hall in Gurunanak Colony and addressed the students and officials of the Social Welfare Department. Referring to performance of the residential schools in SSC public examinations, the Minister said 10,962 students passed against 11,598 appeared for the SSC examinations with pass percentage of 94.52. He said the YSR Kadapa district topped with 99.21 pass percentage in the SSC examinations this year. Ravela said 1.93 lakh students are staying in 2,648 hostels and schools run by Social Welfare Department in the State and efforts are on to introduce biometric system to check corruption and monitoring the educational institutions and hostels.
