Tirupati: The arrangements for the Telugu Desam Party’s Mahandu, which will be held here for three days from May 27, gathered momentum with the party State president Kala Venkat Rao meeting with party leaders and cadre here on Thursday.

Venkat Rao was accompanied by Ministers Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, P Narayana, party Telangana state president Ramana, senior leaders like Mudhukrishnama Naidu, Chittoor district president and MLC Srinivasulu and others inspected Nehru Municipal High School grounds, where the party proposed to conduct the three-day Mahanadu.

He also held a meeting with the TDP leaders and activists to discuss the arrangements for the successful conduct of the meet. Speaking to mediapersons, Venkat Rao said that the party almost finalised the school as the venue for Mahanadu, putting an end to the speculations. He added that as many as 30,000 delegates from the two Telugu-speaking States, would participate in the Mahanadu.

It seems the TDP chose Nehru Municipal School, located near Alipiri, the foot of Tirumala hills for sentimental reasons. It is pertinent to note that various parties and people opposed TDP conducting Mahanadu in the Municipal school on the ground that it would cause lot of inconvenience to the people, more so patients coming to the hospitals located near the school.

More than two thousands patients visiting the hospitals SVIMS, BIRRDS, SVRR and SV Ayurvedic have to invariably pass through either Bhagavan Mahaveer Road or SVRR Hospital Road. Further, scores of pilgrims from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka prefer the route to reach Alipriri to climb the hills on foot to Tirumala.

CPI district secretary openly threatened that his party will stall the meet, if TDP go ahead with holding meet in Nehru Municipal High School, while Rayalaseema Porata Samithi district convener P Naveenkumar Reddy appealed the TDP to reconsider its decision and select any one of the places away from the city that will not hinder public movement or cause any inconvenience to the patients or pilgrims. However, the TDP decided to hold its Mahanadu in the school brushing aside the opposition from various quarters.

According to the chairman of resolutions committee Y Ramakrishunudu about 15 resolutions including resolutions on special status and AP Re-organisation Act would be moved. “The AP and Telangana TDP units will move separate resolutions on certain important issues,” he added.

Already the party is holding constituency-wise meetings and mini mahanadus, which would conclude by May 21. A special exhibition on the achievements of TDP government like Pattiseema, loan waiver, Construction activities pertaining to capital city, NTR Arogya Sri and pensions etc will be organised.
