Srikakulam: Interesting discussions, constructive suggestions, reasonable analysis emerged during the Dasha-Disha programme organised by HMTV at Varam Residency in Srikakulam town on Saturday.

Participants raised their voices on various key issues like special status to Andhra Pradesh, tourism development and overall improvement of backward district of Srikakulam.

Leaders, activists, functionaries and members of various political parties, trade unions, intellectual forums and organisations participated in the programme and expressed different views on how to develop Srikakulam in particular and the state in general.

Reiterating that TDP was firm on special status and fighting for it inside Parliament and also in the public domain, MP, K Rammohan Naidu said demands like railway zone and Polavaram project were also being taken up at the highest level.

‘Because of ruling and opposition parties dramas over special status people are losing confidence over parliamentary democratic system.

It is unfortunate that Centre was not implementing even the assurance given by the then prime minister in Parliament,’ said human rights forum state vice president, K V Jagannadha Rao

Refuting the allegation, BJP state Kisan Morcha national executive member P Tirupathi Rao said that the AP unit of BJP was committed for special status. He said when BJP demanded inclusion of the issue in the bill others opposed during bifurcation said Kisan Morcha National executive member, Pudi Tirupathi Rao.

BJP and TDP are playing politics on the status and running away from their election assurances on it criticized AICC official spokes person, Ratnala Narasimha Murthy. All parties need to fight collectively on special status and for development of the district by utilising natural resources like river waters, granite deposits and lengthy sea coast, said CPM district committee member, VGK Murthy.

Differences among leaders in the state are the main reason for delay in giving in special status opined Lok Satta leaders, Vishnumurthy and P Rambabu.

Lack of political will among leaders of all parties is key reason for backwardness of Srikakulam and people need to put pressure on leaders for effective utilisation of natural resources to arrest migrations and spur industrial development opined advocates, K Annam Naidu and Ch Shankar Narayana.

AP state is facing financial crunch to overcome it special status with special packages are essential said retired district judge, P Jagannadha Rao and Rythu Sangham district general secretary,B AppalaNaidu.

Government whip, K Ravikumar, ZP chairperson, Ch Dhana Laxmi, MLAs, G Laxmidevi, B Ashok, B Ramana Murthy also expressed their opinion on development of district. The programme was moderated by P Venkatakrishna, Chief Editor Debates and Discussions HMTV.
